I have always used Microsoft word as the template for my homework, research notes, and essays. I have always used the Microsoft windows system so I have never had to use the Apple notes equivalent to Microsoft word. I greatly enjoy the schematics behind the program, and have become adept with how to enhance my presentations and work with tools provided by the word program. I use to only really use it for base essays and put in the occasional bullet points for note-taking, but now in college I have realized the full use of many of the advantages the Microsoft Word program has to offer.
My Teachers have always issued quizzes, tests, and essay prompts using the word program. Many of their in class handouts with priority notes have been on the Microsoft word program. I have never had a teacher using anything but word for class. I feel that the Word program is the standard for education, and businesses format. While Apple does have its equivalent programs, I have never had any contact with them in my edification process.
When it comes to issues of copyright I would work with other teachers and monoliths of the education industry, but always form my own work and evolve my own schematic for the edification of my students. Unless there was a prescribed version or handout for students that was unitarily administered to an entire student body, then I would at all cost avoid using others diagrams or intellectual property. As a teacher one must be the example for their students.
To combat any type of intellectual theft by my students I would require them to use citations to prove where they derived their information from, and I would also require them to use programs like TURNITIN to fight the desire to plagiarize someone else's work or research.

Combating/ Finding a Solution to:

Cyber-Bullying:  I would give a general seminar to my students and explain that; just like in the real world you will find people who abuse and belittle others over the internet. I would instruct them to always conduct themselves in appropriate ways that was to never antagonize anyone. "An ounce of prevention, is worth a pound of cure". I would advise them and tell them to never go anywhere in the virtual world that is not a safe environment- just like they wouldn't do dangerous stuff in the tangible world. I would advise them to always be open with their parental units and have them monitor their use of electronics. If they do find themselves the victim of abuse to report it immediately.

Academic Honesty: I would be very strict when it comes to these issues, and dealing with my students. I would be clear from the get go, that anytime of fraudulent activity would be punished in the most extreme way. If need be a lesson will be taught, to not steal other peoples work. It is better to learn this lesson in school, than to learn it in the business world where the consequences are much more severe. I would require all online work be submitted through TURNITIN.

Privacy: I would lecture about the dangers of having too much information out in the far depths of the internet. I would give example of the problems associated with have an unrestricted e-persona such as: identity theft, IP-hacking,  and destruction of  ones personal property online. I would suggest to my students to have their parents monitor their activity online and to always protect themselves when in the presence of other e-personas. To never give out personal information, and to safeguard themselves from fraudulent activity with updating their passwords, and running protective scans on their computers periodically.

  1. Like you idea of a seminar, but do you think a seminar can solve the cyberbully on campus? Changing people's attitude is not an easy job and motivate people to take actions is even harder.
